10 k training

Today's 10 km Time : 41:22I am effectively beating my best of last year in prep for the Oliver 10 km in April.  I am hoping adrenaline and training will get me under 40 minutes, but that is also hoping no injury occurs, which in my tendency in pre-race prep.  I will be massaging, stretching  and making an appointment for some massage.  I am happy with my progress, and I am thinking minus 5 lbs will get me to that under 40 minutes goal.  It will however, be painful and possibly make me puke.

Thanks EZEthan
I am feeling better now that I am on caffeine again. LOL. I think I will be blogging a bit about strides, which is something I am working on to hopefully stave off injury. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

That's good Chad. If you're running 41:22 in training I'll put the farm on you breaking 40 in the race. No pressure though ;)

Hi Chad

First off, thanks for stopping by my blog. It looks like you are making excellent progress and like Ewen, I think you will have no problem breaking the 40 min/10k mark. Weight is certainly a huge issue. I have talked to a number of low 2:50 marathon guys which is my specialty (if you want to call it that!). I was shocked when I heard there competitive running weights. I am a bit over 6 foot and weigh 150 pounds. The really top notch guys are mid 140s and under.

Best of luck and keep me up on how you do.

Bill

I forgot to mention that I have not incorporated strides into my workouts yet. I have only been seriously running for about 5 years. I think the greatest risk is actually over striding and landing heel first.

Thanks Ewen for your encouragement. I will be pretty excited to see that time if I can. I know I am sucking wind most of the way at that pace, but I will push it.

Hey Bill, welcome to my blog, drop by any time!
I am 5:9 at 157 lbs last weight in. (We dont have a scale, but occasionally I jump on the Wii Fit believe it or not!!)

ON the stride subject, I know I FEEL faster when my strides are elongated, but I also know how tight the hips get and the injuries i tend to get from what the chiropractor says is repetitive gait issues when fatigued.. I would probably benefit from a run clinic, if there was one in my little town in Oliver here in BC.
Thanks for the input, its was helpful!

Your goal inspires me dude. I wish you the best at getting under 40 min for your goal. Great Job so far. You are on to something with the minus 5 pounds thing. I have noticed my pace seems a lot easier when I drop a few pounds. Thanks for stopping by BTW.

Kenley thanks. Goals keep me from being in maintenance mode, which drains me of energy and desire to keep going. What is goal for you this year?

Hi Chad
You asked what my goals were this year. 1. base mileage training, finally up to 11 miles now (17.7 km). 2. Lose another 25 pounds (11.33 kg). 3. Half Marathon for sure, Marathon debatable. Ultimate goal - Ultras. Why Ultras? I love the endurance aspect of running. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 Take care!

Kenley! That is a large amount to lose! I hope it comes together really well and it just melts off with tthe mileage increase.
I actually really love that verse, I am facing some of those trials so it is fitting to hear that today, appreciate it man!
I love the thought of ultras, but i am leery of the injury factor. I am as you can see frmo ym blogging at a threshold of my injury proness. hips become tight at a certain mileage. I feel it today for sure as yesterdays 18 km was pushing it with my hips being tight already. Little increases I would have to plan. One run at a time, right?

Chad,
I am glad that the verse brought something to you. When I reach a moment where I feel down, some Bible Reading is appropriate. Yes, one run at a time. Some days are good and others suck. I have had very minor pain issues, but nothing holding me back YET. I am sure there will be something popping up, but I will also do what I can to run safe and smart. word verification - loses lol
