Asthma

Slower Runs area sure sign for me that I have been near an allergen that triggers my asthma.  I have previously blogged about my trouble with dogs.  No matter what dog breed (some claim hypo-allergenic breeds), I am triggered by certain dog dander, it seems especially true for shorter pet fur.  I feel badly when I need to opt out of gatherings where a pet will be , but I just always regret it during a run when I feel sluggish and tight in my chest.  I will also awake in the  middle of the night with an attack needing a releiver to get back to normal.  This is what it looks like in my lungs when an attack hits:
There is nothing I can do other than avoid those allergens.  Allergy pills only take me so far.  Running has changed my attacks and my asthma seasonally has been phenomenally better, but certain triggers can throw my running times and my energy off for weeks after exposure.  It is not like my old attacks either.  Now I must watch that I am not having an attack thatis not so much wheezing and coughing but more lethargy and feeling out of breath.  This is due to my running and my body being efficient at oxygen use, I am certain.  That is actually good, this means less meds needed.  What is not good is my inability to idientify it as an attack.  Using an aerochamber with my inhalor tends to help me get better bang out of my emergency meds.  Nebulizers a the hospital treat the overall non-wheezing attack for a long while.  But prevention for me must be key.  I have had to learn to be unapologetically leery of exposing myself to triggering allergens.

Music Plug: U2's Artificial Horizon

No Line On the Horizonis a pretty good album, and I listen to it on my ipod on my runs.  I have just recently however, aquired a new album from them, its called "Artificial Horizon" and is the remix versions of songs like "Get On Your Boots", "Elevation", and "Ill Go Crazy If I Dont Go Crazy Tonite" are intensely driving and keep my pace quick.  Great album for running too for sure.  I would like to hear any other albums you listen to to keep motivated, keep your pace intense or just like to hear.  Look it up to order here.

Gluteus Minimus Sore

Due for a long runjust now, but as I crept down the stairs I felt an ache in my glute.  Went to the chiropractor a few weeks ago and he diagnosed something different to do with my gluteus minimus this time.  I will be taking it easy and stretching and foam rolling.  He noted by hips and rotators were limited in range of motion.  I want to avoid prerace injury so I will be visiting him again.
Here it is:

Am I 200 meters short???!

Have I beenout of it the last long while?  I run the same route for my 10 km usually each day along a hike bike trail.  I had originally mapped out the route on my bike to figure out the 5 km turn around point.  Upon looking at the Map My Run, Daily Mile etc, I now look at the terrain, and the marker on the trail is not visible so I cant be sure, but it looks like I have been 100 or so meters short on my 5 k turnaround!  I cant zoom in far enough to recognize the house I always pass!  This would be so discouraging for my times I have been killing myself to think I am achieving!  Has this ever happened to anyone??  Maybe Map My run has the distance off?

10 k training

Today's 10 km Time : 41:22I am effectively beating my best of last year in prep for the Oliver 10 km in April.  I am hoping adrenaline and training will get me under 40 minutes, but that is also hoping no injury occurs, which in my tendency in pre-race prep.  I will be massaging, stretching  and making an appointment for some massage.  I am happy with my progress, and I am thinking minus 5 lbs will get me to that under 40 minutes goal.  It will however, be painful and possibly make me puke.
